Overview

SpellPanda ("the App") is a children's educational app designed for kids ages 4–18. We are committed to protecting children's privacy and complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and applicable laws.

Information We Collect

• Anonymous Device ID: A randomly generated identifier stored locally on your device. This is used for rate limiting and subscription verification. It is not linked to any personal information.
• Profile Names: First names or nicknames entered during profile creation. These are stored locally on the device only and are never transmitted to our servers.
• Lookup Queries: The words or characters you ask about are sent to our server to generate educational content. These are stored temporarily for usage tracking and are not linked to any personal identity.
• Usage Counts: We track the number of daily lookups per device to enforce free-tier limits. No content or personal data is included.

Information We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or physical addresses.
• We do not collect precise location data.
• We do not collect photos, videos, or contacts.
• We do not use advertising or advertising identifiers.
• We do not use third-party analytics SDKs that collect personal data.
• We do not track users across apps or websites.

Voice Data

The App uses Apple's on-device Speech Recognition to convert spoken words to text. Voice audio is processed locally by iOS and is not transmitted to our servers. Only the resulting text transcription is sent to generate educational content.

Third-Party AI Service — Google Gemini

When you look up a word or character, the text of your query is sent to Google Gemini API (operated by Google LLC) to generate stroke animations, pronunciation audio, definitions, and examples. Specifically:

• What is sent: The word or character text entered or spoken by the user.
• Who receives it: Google LLC, via the Google Gemini API.
• What is NOT sent: No name, email, location, device identifier, or other personal information is transmitted alongside the query.
• Google's protections: Google LLC provides equivalent data protection under their Privacy Policy and applicable data processing agreements.

Users are informed of this data sharing and asked to agree during the app's onboarding flow before any query is submitted.

Other Third-Party Services

• RevenueCat: Used to manage in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat receives the anonymous device ID to verify subscription status. No personal data is shared.
• Supabase: Used to store anonymous usage data (rate limits, lookup cache). No personal data is stored.

Data Retention

Anonymous usage data (lookup counts, history) is retained for up to 90 days and then automatically deleted. On-device data (profiles, cached results) can be deleted at any time by uninstalling the App.

Parental Controls

Access to settings and in-app purchases is protected by a multiplication CAPTCHA (parental gate) designed to prevent unsupervised access by young children.

Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App is designed to function without any personal information. If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
